WILLISTON (AP) - A woman pulled from her burning home nearly two weeks ago has died of her injuries.
Harriot Weisgerber, 87, who had been hospitalized since the March 8 fire, died Tuesday, Williston Fire Chief Alan Hanson said.
Weisgerber was pulled from her burning home by neighbors and a cab driver who stopped after seeing the smoke and flames.
Hanson said the blaze is believed to have been caused by a discarded cigarette, likely on the front porch where Weisgerber was known to smoke.
"We've ruled out all the other potential causes. It's most probable cause for a person who is known smoker, who has been seen out there in the evenings," he said. "That was the type of fire we had. It was a slow, smoldering fire."
The house was built in the early 1900s, he said.
