A North Dakota Republican district chairman has been appointed to replace a GOP legislator who resigned.
Daryl Lies of Douglas succeeds former state Rep. Dawn Charging of Garrison. Charging resigned March 14, to take a job with the U.S. Agriculture Department in Washington.
Charging's term ends Nov. 30, and Lies will have to run for election to keep the seat.
The Legislature is not scheduled to meet again until after the November elections.
Lies is one of three legislators representing District 4. It is a Democratic-leaning region that includes the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation and parts of six counties.
