FARGO (AP) - Cass County's drug dog is retiring.
Bailey, a chocolate Labrador retriever, has worked as a narcotics dog for about five years. She has health problems and takes longer to recover from her job than when she was younger, Capt. Rick Majerus said.
"Now it's getting to where it takes two to three days," Majerus said. "She just has no energy left."
Bailey also has severe allergies, officials say.
County commissioners voted Monday to approve Bailey's retirement, starting Jan. 2. Bailey was there for the vote.
"Enjoy your retirement," Commissioner Scott Wagner told her.
Bailey's handler, Detective Mitch Burris, offered to purchase the dog for a dollar. He will be responsible for her care.
Bailey was involved in more than 4,000 drug finds, including training exercises, and was responsible for more than $30,000 in asset seizures, officials said.
