DEVILS LAKE (AP) - The city of Devils Lake is seeking a short extension on its deadline to meet federal standards for arsenic in its drinking water.
Devils Lake already has received one three-year extension, and is facing a deadline of late January. City officials want to extend that until March, when water should be flowing from a new water source.
In the meantime, the city has sent notices to residents about the arsenic and the efforts to address the problem.
Public utilities supervisor Joel Myhre says the notices are required by law. He says the amount of arsenic in the water is minimal, and the water is safe to drink.
