MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) - Prosecutors have filed attempted murder and kidnapping charges against a man who was shot by police last week after a woman was abducted.
The charges were filed in Clay County District Court on Monday against 28-year-old Vincent Paul Degidio Jr., of Moorhead.
They include first-degree attempted murder of a police officer, kidnapping, first-degree aggravated robbery, first-degree attempted criminal sexual conduct and second-degree assault.
Prosecutors allege Degidio abducted a woman from her home in Fargo at gunpoint and forced her to drive to Moorhead, where he allegedly said he would rape and kill her.
Police said the woman broke away from Degidio near an auto parts store in Moorhead and he caught her in the store, hit her with a pistol and robbed the store.
Officers chased the suspected and exchanged shots with him. Deputy Moorhead Police Chief Bob Larson estimated last week that between 10 and 20 totals shots were fired.
Degidio remained under guard at a Fargo hospital on Monday.
