GARDNER (AP) - A man was rescued from a ditch after his wife and daughter found him pinned under a tractor, officials said.

John Nyberg of Gardner, believed to be in his 70s, asked that no information about his condition be released, officials at MeritCare hospital in Fargo said Saturday.

Nyberg was raking hay in a ditch about a mile from his home when the tractor he was driving rolled onto him and trapped him face down, said Sgt. DuWayne Nitschke of the Cass County Sheriff's Department.

"The tractor seat had him pinned down in his upper torso area," Nitschke said.

Nyberg's legs and arms were free and he was conscious and able to talk to people on scene, but was having difficulty breathing, Nitschke said.

Officials did not know how long Nyberg had been trapped before rescue workers freed him about 4:20 p.m. Friday.

His wife and daughter started looking for him after he had been gone about two hours, and they found the tractor on top of him in the ditch of a township road about 3:30 p.m., Nitschke said.

More than a dozen people gathered around the tractor, giving Nyberg oxygen and working to free him. Nitschke said the road next to the tractor is rarely traveled.
