DICKINSON (AP) - Bail for a man shot by a police officer in a July burglary incident has been raised to $100,000 after a judge's ruling that he violated bail conditions by drinking.
At a hearing Wednesday before Judge William Herauf, witnesses said they saw 59-year-old Joel Wetzel drinking at a Dickinson bar on Sept. 4. Wetzel denied that, and said he was drinking "two soda pops."
Wetzel is facing charges of burglary and reckless endangerment. He is accused of breaking into a home July 8 and shooting at a man, who was hit in the leg by bullet fragments.
Police said Wetzel aimed a rifle at them and Sgt. Dan Brown shot him in the side.
Wetzel's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday.
