EMERADO (AP) - A 17-year-old girl who disappeared last Wednesday night has been found hiding in her boyfriend's home, police say.
Emerado Police Chief Tim Gillespie said Amber Kay Haugen, 17, was found hiding in a main-floor bathroom in her boyfriend's home in East Grand Forks, Minn., early Sunday.
Gillespie said he called police in East Grand Forks at about midnight Saturday to ask that they check on a tip about the girl's whereabouts. Officers went to the home of the 18-year-old boyfriend and questioned him, Gillespie said.
The girl, who appeared to be unharmed, was taken to a juvenile facility in Crookston, Minn., Gillespie said. She will face charges of "absenting" and unauthorized use of her mother's car, he said.
Absenting is a charge used when a juvenile refuses to obey parents in a runaway situation, Gillespie said.
The boyfriend likely will face charges of hindering the investigation, Gillespie said.
Haugen's mother had reported her missing several days ago, along with the mother's car. The girl last was seen Wednesday night on the University of North Dakota campus. She called a friend early Thursday to say she was "fed up and was not going back home," Gillespie said.
