ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - Floodwater is starting to recede in northern Brown County but it forced the closing of more county roads and a state park as it moves south along the James River.

Fisher Grove State Park, seven miles east of Redfield, is closed until further notice, according to a notice from the state Department of Game, Fish and Parks. The Fisher Grove Country Club clubhouse is also closed, although the course remains open to members, a worker said.

The main road that serves the park and the golf course is underwater, according to the state.

Meanwhile, state Highway 37 is now passable at the North Dakota border after being closed for nearly two weeks.

Jeff Senst with the state Department of Transportation said there is still water across Highway 37, but that vehicles can pass that short stretch using one lane.

Scott Meints, Brown County Emergency Management director, said water levels are down slightly in the northern part of the county in areas around Hecla, Mud Lake and Sand Lake. But as the water moves south, it's forcing the closure of more county roads, he said.

"They're going in the right direction, just not very fast," Meints said of water levels in the northern part of the county.

Water in the Columbia city park is 8 feet deep in some places, he said.

The James River was 6 feet over flood stage at Stratford on Monday and is expected to crest 6 feet over flood stage at Redfield on Wednesday.

In Huron, the city closed Sherman Avenue on the east side of the James River because of flooding.

The mayor said other streets and the Highway 14 business loop road might also be closed to traffic in the next couple of days, depending on rainfall.

Town leaders plan to meet Wednesday with the National Weather Service to get an updated flood projection.

That could prompt the city to build temporary dikes later this week along Jersey Avenue to keep high water out of Memorial Park, where a baseball field and golf course are under construction.
