FARGO (AP) - This area's two largest homeless shelters are full, putting a strain on resources to serve those who need them, officials say.
New Life Center Director Dan Danielson said 10 beds have been added to that shelter, bringing its capacity to 95 people each night.
"If you do the math, if you're supplying shelter to 95 people a night, you can take that times three and it's putting you almost toward 300 meals a day," Danielson said. "And no building or physical plant is really designed to operate at capacity all the time."
The Churches United Shelter, in Moorhead, Minn., has an overflow room, and is averaging more than 60 people a night. Director Bess Askew said the shelter is a 30-day temporary shelter but some people are staying as long as 120 days. Many have jobs but are unable to find affordable housing, she said.
