COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) - Authorities say a sex offender wanted in Washington state has eluded capture in Idaho, and he's believed to be heading for northern Minnesota.
On Saturday night a Kootenai County sheriff's deputy spotted 27-year-old Logan A. Mattson at a rest area along the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 west of Coeur d'Alene (kohr duh-LAYN'), which is in the northern tip of the state.
Deputies pursued the Level 3 sex offender, but had to end the chase because of difficult road conditions. Mattson's car was found abandoned, but a tracking dog was unable to find his trail.
Mattson is 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes.
A news release from the Kootenai County sheriff's office did not say why Mattson might run to Minnesota, and a dispatcher says investigators with more information were not immediately available.
