Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards is slated to visit Fargo, campaign officials announced Saturday.

Edwards is planning to appear at the Fargo Labor Temple on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., said Jenny Lee, a campaign spokeswoman. She said the event would last about an hour.

Edwards, a former North Carolina senator, is competing with Sens. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and Barack Obama, D-Ill., for the Democratic nomination.

Tim Purdon, a Bismarck attorney who is the state Democratic Party's treasurer, said Edwards has visited the state three times before, including as the featured speaker at North Dakota's state Democratic convention in Fargo in 2004. In August 2006, he attended a fundraiser at Purdon's home in Bismarck to raise money for Democratic candidates for the state Legislature.

"We're excited to have him back," Purdon said.
