FARGO (AP) - North Dakota State University has been having trouble counting its students.

The school could not get an accurate first-day enrollment figure Tuesday because a new administrative software system kept spitting out inconsistent figures, said George Wallman, the NDSU vice president for student affairs.

"I don't really have anything other than some erratic numbers off the PeopleSoft system," he said.

NDSU converted to PeopleSoft on June 6, the last of the state's 11 campuses to do so as part of the statewide ConnectND project.

PeopleSoft replaced the old ALFI student registration system with an online system called Campus Connection.

School officials are still getting used to the system and how it counts students, Wallman said.

Based on NDSU's full residence halls, record summer enrollment and a strong fall orientation session, Wallman estimated first-day enrollment at about the same as last year's record of 11,810 students.
