FARGO (AP) - A judge has agreed to push back the trial for a man accused in North Dakota federal court of impersonating a lawyer.
Howard O. Kieffer has pleaded not guilty to one count of mail fraud and one count of false statements. Authorities say he lied on his application to practice law in federal court.
U.S. District Judge Patrick Conmy ordered the trial moved from Nov. 18 to Jan. 6. Conmy said both sides need time to examine a large amount of evidence, and authorities are waiting to see if Kieffer will be charged in other states.
Court documents show Kieffer has worked on federal cases in at least 10 states. North Dakota is the first state to prosecute him.
