Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D.

Earned income: Conrad made $162,200 in 2007 as a U.S. senator.

Honoraria, all donated to charity: None.

Major assets: North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System, $50,000-$100,000; Checking and savings accounts, $16,000-$55,000; Money market account, $50,000-$100,000; Mutual funds, stocks and other investments, $165,001-670,000.

Major sources of unearned income: Two rental properties. Apartment building in Bismarck, N.D., valued between $250,000-$500,000 listed rental income between $15,000-$50,000. Rental unit in Conrad's personal residence in Washington, D.C., valued between $500,000-$1 million, listed rental income between $5,000-$15,000.

Major liabilities: Mortgage, $50,001-$100,000, on Bismarck, N.D., apartment house.

Gifts: None.

Narrative: Conrad also has a house in Bethany Beach, Del. that is owned by his wife, Lucy Calautti. Calautti is a lobbyist for Major League Baseball.

Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D.

Earned income: Dorgan made $162,200 in 2007 as a U.S. senator; $42,500 advance for book to be published in the future.

Honoraria, all donated to charity: None.

Major assets: Three credit union accounts, $31,000-$115,000; bank account, $1,001-$15,000; retirement account, $129,000-$410,000; 50 percent interest in S&S Apartments in Bismarck, N.D., valued at $160,000 (Dorgan's share).

Major sources of unearned income: $153,350 from sale of second Bismarck apartment building, Frontier Apartments; $22,953 rental income after expenses from both buildings.

Major liabilities: $91,414 mortgage balance for S&S Apartments, which was paid off in January 2008.

Gifts: None.

Narrative: Dorgan signed a book agreement with St. Martin's Press in August 2007 to write a book that has the working title "In Search of Common Sense." He received a $50,000 signing payment and is scheduled to be paid $35,000 upon the delivery and acceptance of the complete manuscript and $35,000 upon the publisher's initial hard cover publication of the book. Dorgan's book agent receives a 15 percent cut of these payments. He has paid Tony Bender of Ashley, N.D., $20,000 to assist him with research and editing.
