Details of pay increases approved Thursday for the directors of North Dakota's workers compensation agency:

* Board meetings: For attending meetings of Workforce Safety and Insurance's full 11-member board of directors, as well as any board subcommittees, members will be paid $135 per meeting day, starting July 1. The sum is linked to the daily rate that members of the North Dakota Legislature receive when they are in session. Board members now get $104 a day for meetings.

* Preparation: Board members will get a half-day's pay, or $67.50, to prepare for meetings of board subcommittees and the full board. Subcommittee chairmen qualify for a full day's pay to prepare; the board has three permanent subcommittees. The chairman of the full 11-member board will receive two days' pay for preparation time. At present, board members are not paid for meeting preparation time.

* Travel: Board members will get a half-day's pay to cover travel time for attending meetings. Travel time payments will not apply if a board member participates by telephone conference call. Board members are not currently paid for travel time, although they receive mileage reimbursement.

* Salary suggestions: An October 2006 state audit and a March 2008 consultants' report about Workforce Safety and Insurance's management structure both suggested large pay increases for WSI board members. The state audit implied that an annual salary of $17,000 to $28,750 was justified, and the consultants' report said one state paid its workers' compensation directors as much as $75,000 annually. North Dakota board members said Thursday those compensation figures were unrealistic.
