PARK RIVER (AP) - A stolen pickup believed to be the getaway vehicle in a bank robbery was found abandoned near a field, but authorities said they were still searching for the robber and possibly an accomplice.
Sheriff Lauren Wild said the Gate City bank branch in Park River was robbed at about 10 a.m. Thursday, of an undetermined amount of money. No one was hurt.
A man wearing black clothing, a hood and a scarf or bandanna over his face, had a handgun and told the three tellers he had a scanner, Wild said. The man demanded money and told the tellers not to say anything for five minutes, the sheriff said. He was believed to have fled in a flatbed pickup.
Schools in Park River and other towns within about a 20-mile radius were locked down as a precaution.
Wild said the pickup had been stolen from a farm near Hoople the night before. A few hours later, a farmer spotted it along a section line north of Hoople, just inside Pembina County.
