FARGO (AP) - A Fargo halfway house was evacuated for about two hours Monday after a suspicious item was found among the property belonging to one of the residents, police said. A closer check found no evidence of a bomb.
Police Sgt. Jeff Skuza said the item turned out to be some kind of "Walkman device" with a battery pack attached .
About 25 people were evacuated from Centre, Inc., halfway house and a street in front of it was blocked off about 10:30 a.m. The Red River Valley regional bomb squad was called to send in a remote robot for a closer look at the suspicious item.
"The residents here are prisoners that are working their way back into the community, and the staff does regular checks on them," Skuza said. "One of the staff found something they thought was suspicious in one resident's property.
"Our people took a preliminary glance at it and said it was suspicious enough to look at it with a robot," he said.
