FARGO (AP) - North Dakota's small grain harvest is under way but many farmers are worried about a lack of moisture, the Agriculture Department says in its weekly crop report.
Less than half the state's soil has adequate moisture, the report said. The condition of the small grain crop declined last week, for the fourth straight week, though thunderstorms provided some relief in the northwestern and south central parts of the state.
Other crops improved last week except for canola, dry edible peas and sunflowers, the report said.
The first alfalfa cutting was nearly complete but more than half the state's hay crop was rated poor, the report said. Ranchers have been selling their cattle because of poor pasture conditions.
