BOWBELLS - A truck collided head-on with a van that was following a snowplow on U.S. 52 in heavy snow and wind, killing the driver of the van and a passenger, authorities said.
Authorities say the driver of the van, Douglas Murray, 49, of Vegreville, Alberta, and passenger Justin Johnson, 24, of Calgary, Alberta, were killed in the accident.
The Highway Patrol said the truck was headed from Minot to Crosby, and the van was traveling from Calgary, Alberta to North Carolina when the crash happened about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
The patrol said the van came to rest on the shoulder of the road and the truck wound up in a ditch along the Burke-Ward County line.
The truck driver, identified as John Ashley, 56, of Minot, and a passenger in the truck, Allen Allard, 45, of Minot, were not hurt, authorities said.
Burke County Sheriff Brock Clingman said another passenger in the van, Ken Hardy, 46, of Calgary, suffered minor injuries.
