WILLISTON (AP) - Crews worked Monday to move about 25 cars on a BNSF train carrying corn that derailed west of Williston in below-zero temperatures. No one was hurt.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said the derailment happened late Sunday night along the North Dakota-Montana border, about 20 miles west of Williston. By Monday afternoon, he said, 10 of the cars had been moved to the side.
Crews were working in the bitter cold and wind to have the track open Tuesday morning, Melonas said.
"We'll work throughout the night," he said.
The train, en route from Minnesota to Washington state, had three locomotives and 111 loads of corn, he said.
Amtrak also uses the track and Amtrak passengers were being bused around the site during cleanup, Melonas said.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
"We have not ruled out weather," Melonas said.
The temperature was about 15 below zero at the time of the derailment, he said.
