MINOT (AP) - Bail was set at $10,000 Friday for a Minot car dealer is charged with theft.
Stephen Edwards, 27, who owns Auto Finance Express, faces 17 felony charges and 17 misdemeanor charges. Police said a warrant for his arrest had been issued March 31, and he surrendered Friday morning.
Authorities said Edwards charged customers for state taxes and license fees as part of the purchase price of vehicles but did not hand over registration or send the taxes and license fees to the state. Court documents allege he took more than $125,000.
Officials said some customers had to track down vehicle titles themselves and pay taxes and title fees again. They also said money and paperwork for extended warranties was never sent to the warrantee company.
The charges against Edwards include theft of property and failing to produce titles.
