FARGO (AP) - A judge has combined the mental competency and change of plea hearings for a rural mail carrier from Richland County charged with destroying and stealing mail.
The attorney for 61-year-old Allen Prochnow says his client wants to change his plea. Prochnow had pleaded not guilty to delay or destruction of mail, and theft or receipt of stolen mail.
Defense attorney John Goff has said he would seek an insanity defense. The results of a mental evaluation have not been made public.
U.S. District Judge Rodney Webb set a hearing for Nov. 19 to discuss the case.
Authorities say large volumes of undelivered mail were discovered during a search of Prochnow's home and garage.
