More winter weather was bearing down on North Dakota, just days after an arctic blast caused travel problems throughout much of the eastern two-thirds of the state.

The National Weather Service posted a winter storm watch for much of the state for today. Forecasters said 4-8 inches of snow was possible, with strong winds to blow it around and create visibility problems. The heaviest snow was expected to be in a band from Crosby to Minot to Jamestown.

Winds were expected to blow up to 30 mph, not quite as strong as the 40 mph-topping gusts on Saturday.

"There will be some blowing and drifting snow, but nothing like the blizzard we just had," said Vince Godon, a weather service meteorologist in Grand Forks.

Godon said the track of the storm coming in from the eastern Pacific might change.

"There is a potential for that snow band to shift either north or south," he said.

Wind chills overnight into Thursday could drop as low as 40 degrees below zero, the weather service forecast said.
