GRAND FORKS (AP) - Police on Thursday identified a construction worker killed after an oil tanker truck backed over him.
Police said Craig Knoff, 51, of Grand Forks, was trapped under a tanker truck that was applying an oil-based surface to a driveway in a parking lot of the new Canad Inn hotel complex at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Knoff worked for Aggregate Industries of Moorhead, Minn., police said. The truck driver, identified as Kevin Hamilton, 44, of Minto, also worked for the company, police said.
Police Sgt. Kevin Kallinen said Knoff apparently was applying diesel fuel to a manhole cover in the driveway so the tar-like applications from the truck would not stick to the cover, when he was struck and pinned under the truck.
Firefighters using emergency equipment were able to lift the truck, but Knoff died at the scene, Kallinen said.
