MINTO (AP) - Authorities are reporting the second incident in a week in which a stolen vehicle was used to ram into a business for a cash machine heist.

Walsh County Sheriff Lauren Wild said the glass in the front door of the Cenex Station in Minto was smashed Wednesday and a chain was hooked to the cash machine to drag it out. The machine broke apart, and an undetermined amount of money was taken, Wild said.

"They removed the part of the machine that had the money in it. We found this part of the ATM machine about three miles north of Forest River," Wild said.

A similar incident happened in Grand Forks last week, when someone backed a stolen sport utility vehicle into a convenience store and hauled out a cash machine. It was found about a half block away, unopened, police said.

Wild said his staff is comparing notes with Grand Forks police.

He said authorities are searching for the stolen pickup believed to have been used in the Minto heist. He said it was stolen from the grain elevator in Minto.

Wild described the vehicle as a 1993 white Ford pickup with black and red stripes, painted silver rims and North Dakota license plate GKL265.

The theft is believed to have occurred at about 4 a.m. Wednesday.

In the Grand Forks incident, police said the 1998 SUV used in the heist was stolen from a nearby used car lot and was found the next day in Manvel, which is between Grand Forks and Minto.

Grand Forks police on Wednesday released a 13-second bit of video surveillance video tape showing the March 8 ATM theft. The thief can be seen working to get the ATM out of the store.

The Minto pickup's owner, Bill Slominski, said the pickup was at the elevator until about 9 p.m. Tuesday. Finding it is a key to solving the crime, Wild said.
