GRAND FORKS (AP) - A delay in the construction of a new runway at the Grand Forks airport means new life for the city landfill
Grand Forks Public Works Director Todd Feland says the landfill apparently will be allowed to stay open until next summer.
It had been slated to close around Nov. 1.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the state Health Department have given the city permission to operate the landfill east of the airport until the runway project is finished.
That date now has been pushed back until the first week in July.
Feland says that every month the city can avoid having to truck trash elsewhere saves money.
He says the new landfill has enough room until probably next fall.
