Hettinger - An "eco" education day will be held Sept. 29 a Mirror Lake Park in Hettinger. The day is sponsored by the Adams County Soil Conservation district and is intended to enrich students.

BILLINGS

Medora - The 30-day public comment period on the Theodore Roosevelt National Park's plan to reduce its elk herd in the park ends Wednesday. The plan involves use of skilled volunteers, but the North Dakota Game and Fish Department is awaiting more clarification before supporting the selected alternative. Anyone who wants to comment can contact the park office in Medora.

BOWMAN

Bowman - St. Charles Catholic Church of Bowman will hold its annual fall dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the church. The menu is roast beef with trimmings and pie. A freewill offering will be taken. There will be games for children, a bake sale and a raffle held along with the dinner.

Also, the Bowman Planning and Zoning Commission, the city commission and the housing authority will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Bowman City Hall to discuss plans for twin homes in Block 8 of the Northside Addition.

Dunn Center - The Dunn Center craft show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Ilo Bar in Dunn Center.

GRANT

New Leipzig - New Leipzig will hold its annual Oktoberfest Sept. 25-27 and is looking for runners and walkers for the five-kilometer walk-run. It will start with registration at 7 a.m. Sept. 26 in front of the Gottleib Weller Community Center in New Leipzig and participants can walk in memory of a loved one or just to have fun. A free T-shirt will go to the first 25 who register.

Also, a turtle race will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 26 and would-be participants should start turtle hunting soon.

HETTINGER

Mott - The Hettinger County Weed Board will disperse weed chemicals Curtail, Tordon and Milestone from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Hettinger County Shop near Mott. Amounts are limited and recipients can only pick up chemicals for their own or their spouses' use.

Steele - The Kidder County district health unit at Steele will conduct a car seat checkup from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the unit office. Certified car seat technicians will check for proper installation and for any recalls. Bring both the car seat and its child passenger.

Napoleon - The seventh annual one-person scramble, two-ball format, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Napoleon Country Club. An entry fee of $50 includes a steak supper. Ashley - A public hearing will be held at 8 p.m. Sept. 16 at the McIntosh County Courthouse in Ashley to take public input on the proposed McIntosh County zoning ordinance that will establish districts and regulations within the county. Watford City - The 56th annual North Dakota Rodeo Association championship rodeo will be held at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the McKenzie County fairgrounds multipurpose building in Watford City. There will be a "Wild Ride," and dance to Lonesome Willy both nights. A high school rodeo will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Washburn - An appreciation day for new and current members of the Lewis and Clark Fort Mandan Foundation will be held starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the interpretive center in Washburn. The day will start with tours and include a free barbeque lunch and presentations on the planned expansion of the center. New memberships can be purchased at the door.

Stanton - The Knife River Indian Villages will hold a free outdoor/wildlife photography workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the National Historic Site near Stanton. Photographer DeVane Webster, Beulah, will lead the workshop, which is open to either film or digital photographers. Reservations are taken, but not required, by calling 745-3300.

Hazen - Hazen will hold its annual Harvest Festival Thursday through Sunday, with events including a 5 p.m. Saturday turkey barbecue at the All-Seasons Arena, followed by a dance with The Front Fenders in the same location. For information, call the Hazen Chamber of Commerce at 748-6848.

Cross Ranch State Park - Staff at Cross Ranch State Park near Hensler will lead a two-mile prairie hike at 10 a.m. today, leaving from the River Peoples visitor center. The trail will cover park land and adjacent Nature Conservancy land.
