GRAND FORKS (AP) - Two hospital workers were stabbed to death in their apartment in an apparent case of domestic violence, police said.
The bodies were identified Thursday as Chad Boeckers, 24, and Tina Torkelson, 26, who shared the main-floor two-bedroom apartment in south Grand Forks.
Police said they found no signs of forced entry that would indicate someone else had killed the couple. Sgt. Bill Macki said the apartment doors were locked and a knife was found at the scene.
Macki declined to say which person caused the knife wounds. Police also did not say how long the couple had been dead.
"Until the investigation is concluded, we're not going to release some of those details," Macki said. "At lot of that just depends on the interviews we have ahead of us."
The bodies were discovered Wednesday afternoon, after one of the victims failed to show up for work, officers said earlier.
Neighbors said Boeckers and Torkelson worked at Altru Hospital and moved into the town home apartment about four months ago.
"It looks like they were in a dating relationship," Macki said.
Julie Jeske, a spokeswoman for Altru, said Torkelson was a nurse and Boeckers worked in the hospital's cardiology department.
"Our chaplains, managers and our administrators have been providing emotional and spiritual support for our employees, and making themselves available any time of the day for employees who need to speak with them," Jeske said.
Torkelson, who attended high school in Park River, worked at Altru for about seven years, the Grand Forks Herald reported, citing hospital newsletters. Boeckers was from the St. Joseph, Minn., area, near St. Cloud, police said.
A check of the Grand Forks Police Department database showed no history of domestic violence involving either Boeckers or Torkelson, Macki said.
