WILLISTON (AP) - A rural church here was destroyed by a fire that investigators say likely started in the building's utility room.
Williston Rural Fire Chief Dave Arnson said the fire at West Prairie Lutheran Church was reported at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
The 27-year-old building was a total loss, with damage estimated at about $200,000.
No one was injured, Arnson said.
"It appears to have started in the utility room and spread through the attic, then consumed the entire thing," Arnson said.
Firefighters battled the blaze for about four hours.
Arnson said firefighters were able to save some books and pictures, but little else.
"There was a lot of history lost," Arnson said.
