FARGO (AP) - A federal judge has ordered a man to serve 14 years in prison on a child pornography charge, rejecting his family's pleas for a lighter sentence.
Authorities said a search of Faun Durni's computer found thousands of images of child pornography and more than 100 video files. Durni, 54, of Ellendale, pleaded guilty in June to one count of receiving child pornography.
Family members begged U.S. District Judge Rodney Webb on Friday for leniency, saying Durni did not know the child porn images were being downloaded on his computer and that Durni was coerced into pleading guilty.
"This is a good man. This is a wonderful father with no record of any kind," said Durni's wife, Ellen.
Durni's family said the images of child pornography were mixed in with adult pornography Durni downloaded onto his computer.
Before handing down the sentence, Webb told Durni he felt sorry for him.
"I take you at your word when you said you didn't realize the gravity of what you were doing," the judge said. "Congress is the one who sets the rules. Not me. Not you."
