BRANDON, Iowa (AP) - The bananas that were dumped on Interstate 380 when a semitrailer hit a buffalo in eastern Iowa have been donated to a food pantry.

Officials with the Buchanan County sheriff's office say the semi hit the buffalo early Wednesday morning near Brandon, killing the animal and spilling as many as 30,000 bananas.

The driver of the semi, Stephen Beauclair of North Dakota, wasn't injured.

Sheriff's officials say the bananas were given to the Northeast Iowa Food Pantry.

The 1,400 pound buffalo was owned by Dennis Hunter of Brandon.

The buffalo had been hit earlier by a car driven by an Ohio man, who wasn't hurt.

After the semi hit the animal, a car driven by Anna Corkey of Manchester crashed into the truck.

She was treated at a Waterloo hospital for minor injuries.
