Presidential scholars named

Students from Fargo Shanley and New Salem high schools are being honored in the federal Presidential Scholars program.

Devany Schulz of Davenport, who attends Shanley, and Bryce Tellmann of New Salem are among 139 outstanding high school seniors chosen by a presidential scholarship commission and announced by federal Education Secretary Margaret Spellings.

A statement from Spellings said the seniors have shown "exceptional academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, and service at school and in their community."

The scholars' accomplishments will be recognized June 21-24 in Washington, D.C. Each scholar can invite a teacher.
