GRAND FORKS (AP) - A fatal house fire in Grand Forks has been linked to an electrical repair after the 1997 Red River flood.

Officials earlier said that an overheated electrical wire caused floor joists to ignite March 20 in the home of Herman Williams Junior and June Williams. Their 21-year-old daughter, Stacy, died of smoke inhalation.

June Williams says that after the 1997 flood, an electrician replaced the electrical panel in the home's basement but left in place an old wire to a clothes dryer. She says that was the wire that started the fire.

Fire officials say the wire probably should have been replaced after the flood, but that it was "an electrician's call."
