JAMESTOWN (AP) - A state prison is among the businesses looking for workers.
The medium-security James River Correctional Facility often loses employees to college or marriage, and it faces employee turnover, prison Warden Don Redmann said. He currently is looking to fill 10 positions.
Redmann has dropped education requirements - applicants need only a high school diploma or a GED. The prison has offered to help pay college tuition.
Employers in all industries are having problems filling positions and retaining employees, said Gina Guthmiller, a business and development specialist at the Jamestown-Stutsman County Development Corp. Representatives of a number of those businesses attended a meeting this week to discuss the problem.
Part of the problem employers face is the perception of James-town, Redmann said. Many employees who are new to the city do not know about bike trails, the reservoir, hunting, fishing and other things it offers.
