A man has been sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old child, prosecutors said.

Carl John St. Claire, 44, of Belcourt, was sentenced Friday to 19 years and seven months in federal prison, the U.S. attorney's office said in a statement.

St. Claire was charged with aggravated sexual assault in the May 2005 incident, and a federal jury convicted him in October, prosecutors said.
