GRAND FORKS (AP) - A man found hiding in a law firm basement is accused of drunken driving and losing control of a car in someone's front yard, and his sister is accused of attacking the person who reported him to police, authorities say.

Shane Kevin Pederson, 21, of Grand Forks, was arrested shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday, after he was found hiding in the basement of the Arnason-Rosenquist Law Firm, police said.

Pederson, whose head was bleeding, was spotted at the building by an employee who notified police. Police said Pederson fled and the employee followed him, all the while giving them reports on the suspect.

Pederson was arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment of a head injury, police Sgt. Kevin Kallinen said.

Police believe he was driving a car that smashed into a barrier and a tree within a few feet of a house. They found the severely damaged car two blocks away.

Pederson was arrested on charges of drunken driving, leaving the scene of an accident, driving under suspension, failure to have liability insurance and failure to have vehicle under control, police said.

Moments after Pederson was apprehended, police said, they were called back to the law office, where they found a woman attacking the employee who had reported Pederson.

Tasha Rasmussen, 26, who is Pederson's sister, was arrested on charges of terrorizing, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, police said.
