FARGO (AP) - A Michigan couple arrested in southeastern North Dakota after driving a U-Haul truck through fields in an attempt to escape police after not paying for gas have been sentenced.
Twenty-year-old Christopher Powell was sentenced to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to misdemeanor theft of property, criminal mischief and fleeing police. Powell also is being held for the Army on suspicion of being absent without leave.
His 20-year-old wife, Shannen, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor minor in possession or consumption and was given a deferred 12-month sentence.
The Jackson, Mich., couple was accused of driving off without paying for gas from a station in Mapleton last Friday.
