Hunting measure short of signatures

An initiative to ban hunting within fenced game preserves in North Dakota doesn't have enough signatures to get on the ballot.

Secretary of State Al Jaeger says seven of the petitions didn't list the members of the initiative's sponsoring committee.

Jaeger says the North Dakota Constitution requires initiative petitions to include the names of the sponsors of the proposal.

When the petition was turned in, it had only 120 more signatures than the minimum number of 12,844 names it needed to get on the ballot.

Jaeger says when the flawed petitions were disqualified, the measure was 129 signatures short of the minimum.

Jaeger is still reviewing three other initiative petitions on income taxes, smoking and workers compensation.
