FARGO - Tickets are available in Fargo this week for a visit from Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama.
Obama is holding a meeting Thursday with veterans, military families and the public. The event is at 12:30 p.m. at the Children's Museum at Yunker Farm, near the airport in north Fargo.
Tickets can be picked up Tuesday between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Democratic Coordinated Campaign Office in Fargo.
Dan Hannaher, a member of Obama's North Dakota campaign, said it won't be the candidate's last trip to North Dakota.
Obama was last in North Dakota in April, when he spoke at the state Democratic Party Convention in Grand Forks. That was two months after he won the state's Democratic caucus with 61 percent of the vote.
Michael Bommarito, executive director of the North Dakota Republican Party, said Monday he's not surprised that Obama is returning to the state.
"I think he's trying to muster as much support as he can. I think he's fairly out of touch with North Dakota," Bommarito said.
The last Democratic candidate to carry North Dakota was Lyndon Johnson in 1964.
"I think Obama's got some unusual glitz, if you will," Bommarito said. "He will be getting some specific attention that is sure to draw crowds, but at the end of the day I think people believe in Sen. (John) McCain and where the party is going."
State party officials have not been told if McCain plans to visit North Dakota.
"We have not been contacted. I really can't say one way or another," Bommarito said.
Hannaher said Obama's visit will be an informal talk with a question-and-answer session.
"Clearly it means he intends to dedicate the resources, people, time and finances to winning in North Dakota," Hannaher said. "I think this is a state that can go into the Democratic column."
