GRAND FORKS (AP) - Organizers of the annual french fry feed in Grand Forks are trying to gobble up a record.
The feed is held each year as part of the area's annual Potato Bowl festivities to recognize the potato industry in the Red River Valley.
This year's goal is to chomp down 4,700 pounds of fries. That would top the record 4,680 set two years ago.
J.R. Simplot supplies the spuds for the event. Spokesman Scott Lund says the company fries them a little drier than the normal restaurant process so they're ready quickly.
The fries run through a conveyor belt that dips them into 140 gallons of hot oil with no trans fat.
Organizers say 120 gallons of ketchup will be on hand for dipping, starting at 5 p.m. at University Park.
