FARGO (AP) - A West Fargo man has pleaded guilty to a federal drug charge in a case that police here say was one of the largest meth busts in state history.
Timothy Jon Phelps, 22, also agreed to work with investigators in exchange for a reduced sentence on a federal charge accusing him of possessing more than 4½ pounds of meth and planning to sell it.
U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson set sentencing for April 12.
The arrests of Phelps and Bernardo Retana-Herrera, 21, of Corinth, Texas, came after a report of a strong gas smell at a hotel on Oct. 3, 2006.
Retana-Herrera made an initial appearance in federal court earlier this month.
Police searched rooms rented by several people in the case and later went through the Phelps residence, where they found the meth, Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Myers said.
