MINOT (AP) - The military has identified a Minot Air Force Base airman who disappeared while swimming off the Pacific island of Guam.

The military identified him as Airman 1st Class Michael McDonald. His hometown and age were not released.

McDonald was listed on Sunday as "whereabouts unknown" by the Air Force.

Base officials said in a statement that McDonald and another airman were swimming off Tarague Beach at about 11:15 a.m. Friday when the incident happened.

The other airman was injured and taken to a Navy hospital, where he was later released. His name has not been released.

Capt. James Bressendorff, a Minot base spokesman, said details on the injury and how it happened were not immediately being released.

Coast Guard, Navy and Air Force units were involved in the search on Sunday, the military said.

Both airmen were deployed to Andersen Air Base in Guam in support of the war on terror, and had been there about four months, Bressendorff said. The airmen were assigned to the 36th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.
