Zap is a wonderfully good sport to welcome back the rabble that embarrassed itself during the 1969 Zip-to-Zap.
The mayor notes that this 40th anniversary features a polka band as a concession to the increasing decrepitude of the original Zip-to-Zappers.
That generation does have wrinkles, bifocals and a bit of urinary incontinence; its hair is gray or gone; and its behavior is, ah me, now almost entirely law abiding. But I guarantee it still loves rock 'n' roll. Here are a few of those hard-charging songs that got people out of their chairs in that era:
"Revolution" - The Beatles
"Jumpin' Jack Flash" - The Rolling Stones
"I Fought the Law" - The Clash
"Born to be Wild" - Steppenwolf
"Sympathy for the Devil" - The Rolling Stones
"Bad Moon Rising" - Creedence Clearwater Revival
"Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine" - James Brown
"Marrakesh Express" - Crosby, Stills and Nash
"Whole Lotta Love" - Led Zeppelin
"I Shot the Sheriff" - Bob Marley
"Rock and Roll All Nite" - Kiss
Not exactly Lawrence Welk. And I'm confident it's a generation that can still, as the MC5 sang back then, "Kick Out the Jams."
