Just say no to park board

Why doesn't the Bismarck Park Board understand that people only have so much money to pay for real estate taxes on their homes?

Since we purchased our home in 1978, the market value of our home has gone up 217 percent, our county taxes have gone up 289 percent, our city taxes have gone up 202 percent, our school taxes have gone up 230 percent; however, the park district taxes have gone up 456 percent. Inflation during this time period was only 315 percent.

What is wrong with our system of government when they can rob us for a service that we do not use just so that a few can practice golf in the winter or play racketball? Now they want to build an indoor pool that was voted down two years ago. It is time for taxpayers to take a stand and say no to the minority that want these projects and want all to pay for their fun.

Our country is entering a recession, we are facing record high home heating and gas costs, yet the park board wants us to keep paying more for our homes as the value goes up; however, we are still living in them and not receiving anything more for this value.

We should just say no to the park board.
