American voters, I implore you. It is time to wake up.
Did you read the headlines on Saturday, June 6? "Unemployment nears 10 percent." This, at a time when our national government is pouring billions of dollars into "stimulus programs" in an attempt to keep our economy from collapsing. At the same time, our new president and his administration have begun pushing the idea of nationalized health care! Are you kidding me? Even if this were a good idea, which it is not, we cannot afford it. Our country is far too large to administer a national health care program effectively or efficiently, and the amount of greed and corruption that would infiltrate the system would be staggering. Billions of dollars would be wasted or stolen and the quality of health care given would decrease. A national health care program would not be free health care, but, in fact, the very opposite - very, very expensive and inefficient health care that you would be paying for with much higher taxes. It would necessarily lead to health care rationing - some guy in a business suit telling you whether or not you could have that triple bypass surgery you need to save your life - and when you could have it - and with which surgeon - in which hospital. Is this what you want? Of course not.
We need to fix the gaps in our current health care/insurance systems so that everyone can get the care they need, yes, but we do not need to turn over this very important part of our lives to the government's care.
Wake up and let your members of Congress know, today, that we do not want or need, and we certainly cannot afford, nationalized health care.
