I am disgusted by Ryan Norell's article about preborn persons and the "need" to protect them. I also feel dismay at Rep. Dan Ruby for pushing the legislation through the House.
This bill is nothing but a politically motivated attack on Roe v. Wade under the guise of discrimination and protection. Should this pass and become law, it will only attract unwanted national publicity and tarnish our state's image.
North Dakota doesn't need to go through the embarrassment that South Dakota experienced when it attempted to pass the most severe abortion law in the country, which was ultimately shot down.
I want our legislators to focus on actual issues during this session, such as economic development, infrastructure, surplus and the like, instead of being partisan on hot-button issues that hinder politics and blur the distinction between representing the state and its people, and wasting time and paper on vested interests.
