Democrats have the right idea

It is very interesting to observe the candidates debate as to which one is the more qualified to be our next president, Obama, a liberal (Democrat), or McCain, a conservative(Republican).

In the last debate, both candidates resounded on how to restore our nation's economy and social well-being. It is not just the economy, but our whole system of government, including our Constitution, that has been put into jeopardy within the last eight years.

As long as there is human greed, we must control that greed. Which candidate, if elected, would most likely achieve that goal?

McCain has hailed Ronald Reagan as his hero, stating he would adopt the same conservative philosophies as Reagan. This is a frightening message. It was Reagan who established the trickle-down theory, which gave birth to the dilemma we are facing today. It gave the biggest tax breaks to the wealthy, reduced aid to the states and local governments, putting the financial tax burden on the local citizens. Reagan's campaign battle cry was, "We must get the government off our backs."

Whom did Reagan refer to as government? I always thought we, the people of this country, are the government. Whose back did he want us off?Very obviously, corporate America's. This was his way to deregulate big business, break the labor unions, giving the corporations a free rein to take over all functions and control of the government through their lobbyists, which brought the country to the brink of collapse.

Not since the Hoover presidency has this country been in the financial crisis it is in today. It has proven itself time and again that the country has always fared best under a Democratic administration.

We must reelect Democrats on all levels of government. We cannot condone ultra-conservatism any longer. Barack Obama has the right message.
