Officers cited two young girls with minor in consumption after smelling alcohol on their breath during an arrest for curfew violation.
Bismarck Police Lt. Dan Donlin said an officer stopped two girls walking in south Bismarck at 1:28 a.m. Monday and smelled alcohol on their breaths.
A 12-year-old Bismarck girl tested at a .10 blood-alcohol concentration, and a 13-year-old Bismarck girl tested at a .07 blood alcohol concentration, Donlin said.
A .10 BAC means one-tenth of 1 percent of a person's blood contains alcohol. The legal driving limit for BAC in North Dakota is .08.
Both girls were cited with minor in consumption and curfew, Donlin said. They were released to the custody of their parents.
Donlin said officers often see middle-school-age children experimenting with alcohol or drugs, but the girls seemed to be younger than they usually see.
"That's rare that we see the 12-year-old range," he said.
