Bismarck police are investigating an early morning robbery at the south Wal-Mart.
The robbery at Wal-Mart, 2717 Rock Island Place, occurred between 12:35 and 12:38 a.m. today, Sgt. Dwight Offerman said.
Offerman said a man walked up behind a female employee standing at a till and handed her a note demanding she put money in a bag. The man told the employee he had a gun, Offerman said.
The employee did not report seeing a gun, but the incident is considered an armed robbery because of the threat of a firearm being used, Offerman said.
He said the employee complied with the man's request and gave him an undetermined amount of money in a bag. The man then left, walking fast out the door near the food center at the store, Offerman said.
The employee did not get a good look at the man. She described him as about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds. She said he had dark hair and wore dark clothing.
Offerman said Wal-Mart has surveillance cameras, and detectives are working to determine if the video will help lead to the identification of a suspect.
Anyone with information about the robbery should call the Bismarck Police Department at 223-1212 or Bismarck Area Crime Stoppers at 224-TIPS (224-8477).
